Founded: January 2006

Sector: Office 2.0, Forms, Data Management

Headquarters: Tampa, FL

Management: Chris Campbell, Co-founder; Kevin Hale, Co-founder; Ryan Campbell, Co-Founder

Funding: Y Combinator and Angel

Competitors: SurveyMonkey, Formsite, Formspring

Secret Sauce: What makes Wufoo a winner is the user interface. There’s a lot more to it but for something as “simple” as a form building site, UI is crucial. When I went to check out competitor sites after doing some testing on Wufoo I was immediately annoyed by what else is out there, Wufoo raises the bar. Every written instruction on the site is clear and concise, the icons make sense, the comments are cute, it’s what we call around here “a nice package”. What you get is not a prefab one-form-fits-all deal, every field can be customized, so the possibilities are endless. Wufoo also hosts your forms, hosts your data, provides reports on your data and can send your data to you via email and rss. Even better, Wufoo is not a control freak – you can export your data, host your forms on your own or just use the CSS and XHTML markup for your dastardly data projects. The biz model is subscription based, there’s a broad range of account options, from free to $199 a month for an infinite account. It’s a good bet that single users bringing this back to work with them will expand Wufoo’s accounts.

Seen and Heard:
Techcrunch gives a positive shout-out “Wufoo is so flexible, usable and has such good reporting that it made me want to create some forms just so I could use it” and Solution Watch admits “Honestly, my first impression was, “Here we go. Another form creation tool.” I was wrong.”
